FLAME: The Flexible Large-scale Agent Modelling Environment

FLAME is a environment for developing agent-based applications. It was initially developed by Simon Coakley of the Computer Science Department at the University of Sheffield and has been extended to run on high performance systems in collaboration with the Software Engineering Group at STFC.

FLAME has been successfully used in a large number of different application areas including: biology, behavoural science, computationl economics and finance.

FLAME takes a model definition and associated function code and generates a complete agent-based application. The figure show to buidling process in which the main FLAME components - the X-Parser and the Message Board Library are higlighted.

The base code of FLAME continues to be develop by groups in Sheffield and the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and many groups are developing agent-based models based on the FLAME methodology.
