CCPForge unavailable Tuesday 19/06/12
Work is taking place tomorrow (Tuesday 19/06/12) to replace a router at the Rutherford Appleton Labratory site (home of CCPForge). This will mean a loss of access to CCPForge.
The work will start at 08:00 and the Lab networking team hope to finish by 10:00. If a problem arises and there is a guaranteed resolution in sight, work will go on until 12:00.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

CCPForge welcomes CCPI
The recently funded new CCP for tomographic imaging software (CCPI) has joined CCPForge.
They are planning to make use of the source code control systems offered by CCPForge to facilitate collaboration on their software development between groups at the University of Manchester and the University of Bath.
Saving Scientific Software using CCPForge
The use of CCPForge has been highlighted in an blog post (http://software.ac.uk/blog/2011-10-13-save-scientific-legacy-code) for the UK's Software Sustainability Institute.
Describing the work on a "molecular physics" code the post identified the use of Subversion to control the source code, and, more importantly, the collaboration between "members of the development team and the software’s users" as particular strengths of CCPForge.
Here's hoping for more mentions!

EPSRC Survey on CSED SLA including CCPForge
As you know CCPForge is supported by EPSRC through a service level agreement (SLA) with the Computational Science
and Engineering Department of STFC. EPSRC are currently reviewing the computational support offered by the Department
(which is mostly based at Daresbury Laboratory). As part of this they have commissioned a Customer Satisfaction Survey to
which your views on the CCPForge service should contribute.
The link to the survey is
http://www.survey.bris.ac.uk/epsrc/csedsla
and it should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
If you could find the time to give your views I would be very grateful and if there are other members of your project who
could give feedback the please pass this request on the them.
The survey ends on 26 Sept 2011.

Another CCPForge outage
We have been told that the work that necessitated the power shut down on December 10-13 2010 was unsuccessful and another shut down is required. The work will happen on the weekend of 22/23 January 2011.
Therefore CCPForge will be offline from 4pm on Friday 21 Jan to 8:30 am on Monday 24 Jan 2011.
I apologise for any problems that this may cause.

Change in user registration
User registration has been made a little more open. New users can click the 'Register New Account' link at the top right and fill in their details and click the Submit button.
Registrations will then be checked by CCPForge administrators before accounts are created to monitor the incidence of spam registrations.

CCPForge Upgraded
As you may have noticed CCPForge has been upgraded to GForge Community Edition 5.7. In the background we also upgraded the server machine and operating system.
All existing data has been migrated with the exception of the wiki material due to incompatibility between the old and new wikis. Project administrators should check the data and permissions on their projects and users should log-in and check their own data.
If there are any problems or queries then please e-mail gforgeadm@ccpforge.cse.rl.ac.uk.

CCPForge Account Registration Changes
Despite recent measures to stop spamming of the CCPForge server with spurious accounts a number have still got through. For this reason account registration has been changed.
We now require an e-mail request to the site administration at mailto://gforgeadm@ccpforge.cse.rl.ac.uk .
Please include your academic affiliation and a proposed username in the e-mail - if either are missing then the account will not be created. The requesting e-mail address will be used to set up the account and for all communication from CCPForge.
I am sorry that we have had to put these measures in place but they are necessary at present for the continued running of the service.

CCPForge Account Registration Open
We have now put in place anti-spam measures on the user registration page and it is once again possible to create new accounts.
CCPForge Admin Team
CCPForge Account Registration Suspended
Due to spamming of the system with fake user accounts the registration of new users has been suspended.
We are working to clear the system and will re-open registration as soon as possible.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.

Searching Mailman Archives
Following a request from the GAMESS-0UK project I have implemented searching of mailing list archives.
It uses swish-e (http://www.swish-e.org/index.html) to index the archives and do the searching from a web page. All archives pages now have a link called "Search this list" that takes the user to a search page.
I hope other projects find it useful.

Network Disruption 7th July 2009
Dear CCPForge users,
The Network administrators at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (home of CCPForge) have advised us of possible network disruption on July 7th.
It is therefore likely that CCPForge will be unavailable for some periods during the morning.
Apologies in advance for any inconvenience.

===========================
This is advanced notice that there will be a series of short, site-wide network interruptions across the RAL site on the morning of Tue 7th July, occurring sometime between 7am and 10am. This is due to urgent and essential maintenance work which needs to be carried out by the siteâs central network team.
You will experience two (or possibly three) short interruptions of about 10 -15 mins each while this work is done, sometime within this time window, but unfortunately they are unable to be more precise about the exact timings.
CCPForge Site Service no longer "At Risk"
Yes, I know I should have posted this long ago but just in case you didn't realise the CCPForge service can be considered to be in full production.
CCPForge Workshop 30 March 2007
As you will be aware is now available for use by
software developers within the CCPs. It is intended to be easy to use for software users, developers and administrators but in order to help
things along in the initial stages we have organised a workshop at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory on Friday 30 March.
It will take the form of a demonstration of CCPForge and then time will be available for participants to use the system with help available on hand.
We would also like to take this opportunity to talk about the Software Engineering Support Program, what it is and how it can help CCP software developers. We have a number of tools available for software quality measurement and time will be available to use them on the participants own code.
A preliminary agenda for the day is given below. We have space for 8 participants on a first come, first served basis. Anyone wishing to take
part in the workshop should contact David Worth (d.j.worth@rl.ac.uk) so details can be arranged... (see more)
CCPForge available externally
Great news!
CCPForge is now available outside CCLRC!
Developers in the CCPs can start to use it to host their projects, collaborate on development and distribute code to their users.

CCPForge Site Service "At Risk"
To test the backup and mirroring regime for CCPForge the site should be considered "at risk" until further notice.
This means changes you make in your project may go missing as we swap servers and reboot machines.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Multimedia files for projects
Project admins can now upload a small number of multimedia files (e.g. for screenshots) for their projects.
In the Admin tab for a project there is an "Edit Multimedia Data" option. Click it and you find a page where you can add multimedia files (total limit is 1MB). When files are added, this page contains a table summarising the files and you can get URLs for the files from here.
These URLs can be used in the project's long description (Admin Tab - Edit Public Info) using html markup, e.g. <img src="http://ccpforge.cse.rl.ac.uk/dbimage.php?id=1">
Wiki Plugin Added
We have added a wiki plugin to the site. This means projects can create wiki pages for their applications to provide screenshots, citations or any other information that may be of interest to users.
Project admins can enable the wiki pages via the Admin tab of their project and choosing "Edit Public Info". Then select "Use Wiki Plugin" in the "Active Features" section.
For details on using a wiki take a look at http://ccpforge.cse.rl.ac.uk/plugins/wiki/index.php?HowToUseWiki&id=6&type=g
Site Upgrade
The CCPForge site has been upgraded to use GForge version 4.5.11. This is primarily a bug fix release although a new "Advanced Search" feature has been added within projects.
Subversion upgrade on server
I have upgraded subversion from 1.1.4 to 1.3.1 to fix a bug in viewing file revisions in a subversion repository via the SCM tab.
If this has broken anything then please submit a bug using the 'Bug Tracker' link on the main page.
Longer project descriptions
I have implemented longer project descriptions to be shown on the project summary page. The short descriptions are still required for project registration but longer descriptions (that may include HTML) can be added from the project admin page by clicking Edit Public Info.
If the longer description is not present the short description will be used on the summary page.

I have implemented a longer project description to be displayed on the project summary page. The short description is still req
SVNTracker added to CCPForge
All projects using Subversion for SCM may now use the SVNTracker plugin.
SVNTracker reviews all commits in a project and searches for a specific string to know which task or tracker item is related.
This string is of the form: [#NNN] for Tracker, and [TNNN] for Tasks. Example:
$ svn commit -m "This patch will solve a problem on Bug [#123] and closes task [T344]."
Then, in the task or tracker detail page, a log will appear with links to the involved files.
Project admins can use the "Edit Public Info" page to activate the tracker for their project.
